The Battlefield Society offers several publications connected with the battle. In Tewkesbury the books are normally stocked by Alison’s Bookshop (High Street), the Abbey shop (in the Abbey), and the Tourist Information Office near the Cross in the centre of the town.

The Street Banners of Tewkesbury - New Edition

Now in its 4th edition, this book was compiled in response to public interest in the banners and the people they represent. A total of 179 coats of arms attributed to notable people involved in the battle have been brought together in this book, each accompanied by a brief biography. Includes a 'Rough Guide to Heraldry and its Terms' giving a simple explanation of how a coat of arms is compiled.  All arms are in full colour, and spread over 243 pages.

Tewkesbury - The Eclipse of the House of Lancaster 1471

SteveBook3.jpg

Written by society member and our former Chair Steve Goodchild. Steve's gripping account of the fighting, and of the politics and intrigue that led to it, is the first to take fully into account the landscape of the West Country over which the opposing armies marched, and the terrain on which they fought.

The book contains maps and diagrams of both Edward’s and Margaret's advance to Tewkesbury together with deployments on the day. It also looks at contrasting theories surrounding Somerset’s tactics and the aftermath of the battle itself.
