FROM FAYRE TO FESTIVAL:

The Early Days of Tewkesbury Medieval Festival

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, which began as an afternoon community re-enactment of the battle. It has grown and changed since then, evolving from a pretty chaotic and unstructured local event to something which is recognised through Europe as a leader in its field, and with a turnover well into six figures, despite having no significant sponsorship or entrance charge.

Tewkesbury Museum’s autumn talks series starts on Tuesday October 3rd, with Jane Baalam reminiscing about her involvement with the event, guiding it through a period of significant growth and change, before passing the baton on to others to take it further, with new ideas and new ventures.

The talk will be at Tewkesbury Baptist Church in Station Road, starting at 7.00pm. It will be followed by coffee and cake, with plenty of opportunity to chat and maybe reminisce. All for an entrance fee of £3.00
