Committee Meeting - 13th December 2024

Our last committee meeting of the year is usually a relatively quiet one as we are furthest away from our major events, and this year proved no different. The winter sees our focus on maintenance of our banner stock, and our team of banner painters are hard at work refreshing those which are showing some wear and tear, as well as creating new ones to replace banners that have reached the end of their display life. We are always keen to welcome new painters at our Monday afternoon sessions at Elizabeth Wyatt House. No historical knowledge required – just a steady hand and willingness to get involved!

Events are similarly at a low level over the winter, although our monthly battlefield walks continue to attract a good attendance, despite the wet weather (we’re fortunate that we can vary our route to accommodate all but the worst flooding). We’ll be gathering for our annual post-Christmas get-together on Friday 10 January at the Tipu Sultan Indian restaurant in Tewkesbury High Street. The event is open to all Society members and a separate post will be on the website inviting expressions of interest so we can book a table.

It only remains for us to thank all our members for their support throughout the year. The battlefield is in good shape, the banners continue to brighten the streets of our Town throughout the summer, and interest in the critical events of a Saturday morning 553 years ago remains high, which means we’re achieving our objects, but none of this would be possible without your enthusiasm and involvement – thank you, and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wherever you are and however you celebrate this time of year.
